1. More five years ago, to buy a
colour TV set or video was really a big problem. How can we buy a good quality
one? Is the price reasonable? But up to now, buyers can stand amazed at the
display of scores of labels of TVs, cassettes, video, etc. on sale everywhere.
2. Let’s take a walk around Huynh
Thuc Khang market, one of the big markets selling electronic appliances in Ho Chi Minh City .
Salespersons here affirm that in recent years the pace of selling electronic appliance
has increased much more than previously. This partially shows that the needs of
the market have speeded up and the living standards of the people have been
improved.
3. According to the source of the
Union of Vietnam Electronics and Informatics, the demand for household
electronic appliances in Vietnam
has annually increased by over 17%.
4. It is estimated that from now to
the year 2000 the demands will be 2 -2.5 million sets/year, of them the
predominant sets are colour TVs and video.
5. Within two years, Vietnam
has had more than 100 establishments assembling electronic products with a capacity
of over 4 million sets/year.
6. The products assembled in Vietnam
have begun winning the trust of customers and have almost dominated the local
market.
7. However, up to now there have
been only 12 assembly establishments attaining the industrial level on a large
scale with huge investment capital and modern industrial line.
8. The Union of Vietnam Electronics and Informatics has, in
recent years, invested more than 4 billion Vietnam dong and millions of USD in
buying identical assembly lines to assemble high-class household electronic appliances
in the form of CKD for the affiliated Vietronics firms.
9. The above investments have
guaranteed the quality of products before they are turned out.
10. Fairly speaking, the market of
household electronic appliances of Vietnam still keeps a lot of
potentials and will develop quickly.
11. From a few kinds of labels at
first now there have been tens of world-labels of Asia and Europe
engaging in the harsh race and competition into the Vietnamese market.
12. We may mention some well-known
names like SONY, TOSHIBA, PANASONIC, SHARP, SANYO, GOLDSTAR, DAEWOO, SAMSUNG,
PHILIPS, THOMSON...
13. However, up to now European
labels have almost disappeared on the Vietnamese market, especially TV and
Video.
14. At present, while European
firms have just stopped at promoting trade, Asian companies have made big
strides by bringing assembly kits to Vietnam and setting up maintenance
networks throughout Vietnam.
15. Together with the economic
growth and the improvement of the living standard of the Vietnamese people, the
market of household electronic appliances will have a lot of opportunities for
development.
16. This has posed a problem for
manufacturers: how to make their own products satisfy the common needs and the
State should support this industry still in its infancy, for example, to have
policy of encouraging production in the form of CKD and to strictly wage and
anti-smuggling campaign of electronic appliances to protect domestic producers.
